Lessons Advice:
Choosing the Right Course
Are you new to Ballroom Dancing?  Maybe you are not sure
you can learn to dance.  Perhaps you have tried before and
have had a bad experience.  Don’t give up.  Try our
Introduction to Ballroom Dance course.

We designed our
Introduction to Ballroom Dance course after
talking to many, many people about their experiences in trying
to learn to dance.  The 3 biggest problems mentioned were:

  1. As soon as the lesson is over, I can’t remember what was
    taught.
  2. The class moves too fast and everybody seems to be
    catching on but me.
  3. I have trouble picking out the dance beat in songs.

Our
Introduction to Ballroom Dance course solves those three
biggest problems.

  1. You receive simple-to-understand diagrams of all the
steps covered in each class.  This helps you remember
    what was taught in class.
  2. The class is slow paced and only covers the basics.  And
you have ample time to practice those basics in class.
  3. We give you a practice CD that contains both basic
    rhythms and easy-to-dance-to instrumentals.  Listening
to the CD helps you train your ear to pick out the dance
    beat.

If you are
confident in your ability to learn Ballroom Dance,
then start with one of our beginning courses.  We recommend
that the first courses you take are East Coast Swing and
Waltz.  (For a complete description of these courses and all of
our courses, see
Course Descriptions.)  After learning Swing
and Waltz, you will be able to dance to about half of the songs
we play at our Friday Night Dance Parties.

If you have
been away from dancing for a while, then try
one of our refresher courses.  We go over the same steps
covered in the first two beginning courses, but at a much faster
pace.  You may be able to review 8 weeks of steps in as little as
two lessons.

Most people who are new to ballroom dancing start out by
wondering which course they should take first (Q1).  After
taking a few lessons, the next question that pops into their
minds is
when will they be ready to go to a dance (Q2) and
start having fun.

We can personally help you answer these questions.  Just go to
our
Contact Us page and ask.  Or, if you prefer, you can use the
following guidelines.
Q1: Which Course to Take First
You will be able to enjoy dancing at our Friday Night Dance
Parties in
about 6 weeks or less.  (See our Dance Calendar to
find out when our dances are scheduled.)  We play music at
our Friday Night Dance Parties that is suitable for the beginning
dancer as well as the experienced dancer.  Since we
recommend that our beginning dance students take East Coast
Swing and Waltz as their first dances to learn, we play Swing
and Waltz music between 40% and 50% of the time at our
Friday Night Dance Parties.
